Canada Stamp #171 - King George V (1930) 8¢
SKU: CAN-0171
Plate Block (Upper Left) - Plate #1 (Used) - Toronto Purple CDS
(PB-UL-#1-009)
Superb Toronto purple circular date cancellation (February 23, 1934)! Very scarcely seen as a used plate block, as it required a collector on both ends (sender / receiver) to keep it intact, an excellent item for the specialized collector!

Description
Beginning on April 1st, 1930, the contract for the manufacture of Canadian postage stamps was awarded to the British North American Bank Note Company. This old-established firm had not manufactured Canadian postage stamps since March 1897. This change of contract necessitated the issue of a completely new series of stamps called the "Arch/Leaf issue" with the identical portraits of King George V on all the lower denominations.
