While Canada's basic railway system was in place by 1905, the ensuing two decades witnessed a doubling in mileage caused by the construction of two additional transcontinental main lines - Grand Trunk Pacific and Canadian Northern opened respectively in 1914 and 1915 - plus the addition of new secondary main and branch lines. The nation's railway mileage grew from 32,964 km in 1905 to 64,940 km by the end of 1925. Contains Scott numbers 1072a, 1073 and 1074.
